What’s on in March

March is a busy month in the Northern Rivers, with something to suit sunny days, rainy days and even the in-between days!

Leading the charge for those who, like us, are tragic Kasey Chambers fans, definitely put Saturday 29 February in your diary for the Northern Rivers Bright Futures tour. Yes, I know it is technically still February but never mind! A free touring festival put on by the NRMA as part of their centenary celebrations, the stopover in our region (at North Byron Parklands) features Kasey as well as Richard Clapton and local groups Pink ZincThe Palm Wine Ambassadors, Happy Africa, and Byron Youth Theatre. Local food trucks and easy parking too. The festival also continues on Sunday.

Have a laugh at the local heats for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival on Monday, 2 March. Billed as a night full of hilarious comedians you’ve never heard of, you can grab tickets online.

For the adventurous girls in your life, you could take them to the Women’s Adventure Film Tour, hitting Lismore Saturday, 7 March. The collection of award-winning short films celebrates women doing extraordinary things in the name of adventure. Yeah!

The next day, Sunday 8 March, you could float on up the Brunswick River and help the environment at the same time. The #RiverWarriors Brunswick River initiative is all about removing marine debris from this stunning waterway. With kayaks available for hire, and warm water this time of year, there’s no excuse not to get your paddle on!

And continuing the marine theme, the Ocean Film Festival hits Byron on Friday and Saturday, 13-14 March. Two hours of films designed to inspire you to explore, respect, enjoy, and protect our oceans.

Roller Derby more your style? Checking out the Northern Rivers Roller Revolt could be a hoot over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, 14-15 March. Food trucks on site too.

For some fun flea market wandering, hit the Byron Flea Market on Saturday 14 March.

For a bit of Carnivale, Byron style, put 21 March in your diary for CarnaByron. With a street parade and a bid ol’ party at the Beach Hotel, this will be a melting pot of culture, music, dance and fun. And this year’s event will support the Be Happy Music Club, a not-for-profit that works hard to bring music to kids living with a disability, promote social inclusion, musical ability, self-expression and enjoyment. Sounds great!

Perfect for any day of the month, definitely take a drive into the Hinterland to visit Minyon Falls. After what seemed like months of barely a trickle, this stunning waterfall is heaving again and it is extraordinary. Make a day of it and do one of the excellent walks in the Nightcap National Park. We can even delivery a picnic pack to you to fuel your day!

And if you think that’s a lot, head on over to our round-up of foodie events and happenings for March. Going to be a busy month and a perfect month to visit the Northern Rivers!

Cheers,

Georgina
